North Patrol post #1416
The North substation’s PSC unit #1416 was created in 2010. The unit number was chosen in memory of SAPD Officer Mark Renaud, who wore badge #1416. Officer Renaud joined SAPD in 1996 and passed away in 2004 after a bravely fought battle with cancer. North unit meets each Tuesday from 6-9 pm at the North substation, located at 13030 Jones-Maltsberger. Several SAPD officers help teach and mentor PSCs as they learn SAPD’s procedures, techniques, and tactics. Many of these SAPD officers are former PSCs themselves. In addition to participants being introduced to the rigors of law enforcement, the program also develops leadership skills, good citizenship and an appreciation for community service.
PSC is a year-round program and there are specific minimum requirements that have to be met prior to being accepted. Each meeting begins with a roll call and classroom instruction followed by approximately 2 hours of practical scenarios in which PSCs act as officers responding to various situations. The meeting is concluded with 30-45 minutes of physical activity.
